Window film, especially in the hot Florida sun, is an excellent investment for your house, business, or car, as it provides several benefits. You can take measures to increase the life of your window tint and keep your windows looking great for years to come. Here are some options to help you keep your tinted windows in good shape.

Cleaning Products

What can I use to clean tinted automobile windows, you might wonder?

We recommend a mild cleaning product or water. We never recommend ammonia-based treatments since they will discolor and harm window tint. Scrubbing or using a powerful cleaner can destroy the film. If your window isn’t too dirty, use a spray bottle and soft microfiber cloth with water.

Cleaning Your Windows Properly

The steps to effectively cleaning your windows are as follows:

  1. First, make sure the window tint has had time to cure. Depending on the climate, curing might take seven to thirty days. Don’t be alarmed if you notice any hazing or even water pockets during this period.
  2. Use a clean squeegee or a cotton cloth to clean the windows when you’re ready. If you need to clean your window film, use a window film-specific cleaner and stay away from anything that contains ammonia or harsh cleaning agents. Warm, soapy water will also suffice.
  3. To clean, spritz it lightly with your cleaner, then wipe it down with a clean, soft microfiber or cotton cloth. To provide a clean surface, turn the fabric frequently.
  4. After wiping the glass clean, re-spray it and use a soft rubber squeegee to swipe it horizontally from top to bottom until it’s dry. If there is any cleaning residue on the window’s edges, wipe it away.
  5. Using an acetone-soaked cotton cloth, remove any remaining glue or adhesive from anything taped to the window. Acetone will not harm the film but will remove the glue quickly. After removing the residue, wipe it clean.

Here are some tips for washing tinted windows.

  • Use a drop of dish soap in warm water.
  • Wipe down the window with a soft microfiber cloth in one direction.
  • When wiping off the windows, be careful not to catch the edge; otherwise, the tint will begin to peel away from the glass.
  • Don’t use paper towels. It’s challenging to create a streak-free shine with a paper towel because it often leaves fiber particles on the window; instead, use a soft microfiber towel.

Main Points to Remember

  • Place your vehicle in a shaded area.
  • Look for significantly dirty patches on your car’s windows as you open the doors.
  • Wipe off each window with a cloth and an ammonia-free cleaner.
  • Wipe the leftover liquid from the window with a small squeegee, starting at the top and working your way down.
  • If there is any moisture at the film’s edges, wipe it away using a cloth.

After completing these simple steps, walk around your car to ensure there are no streaks on the glass. To ensure the cleaning residue is gone, you may need to return your automobile to the sun and sit inside to view it from the inside.

Do’s and Don’ts of Window Film

  • You should not use ammonia and other strong chemicals.
  • Use a chemical cleaner that states it’s safe for window film on the label.
  • After the film is installed, do not clean the windows until it has had time to cure.
  • Because the tint is installed on the inside of the glass, clean the window’s exterior as usual.
  • When you get your tint done, don’t roll down your tinted windows for a week or longer, depending on the weather.
  • To clean tinted windows, use soft cloths and squeegees.
  • Avoid using razor blades, scrapers, or abrasive cleaning agents on tinted windows.
  • Inquire with your installer about the best window cleaning solution.

These guidelines will ensure that your newly installed tint will serve you well for many years, whether you have a home window or auto glass tint.
